安德斯成天無所事事，幻想著他有朝一日能夠成為知名的小說家；父親則沉迷於賭博與酒精當中，母親為人洗衣支撐家計，女友又意外懷孕。瑞典新浪潮當中重要的代表作品，自在、輕盈卻殘酷的自然主義風格來自於對於柏格曼現代主義電影哲學的反動，影片主人翁放蕩不羈的成長經歷深深地觸動了柏格曼，選為他最愛的十大影片之一。
In the mid 30s, Anders is dreaming about becoming a writer. His friend Sixten is dreaming about becoming a football player so he can go to Paris and meet prostitutes in fur. His mother supports the family by doing laundry, while his father is unemployed and has a problem with alcohol and gambling.
